5 Signs That Yoga Has Taken Over My Life

1. When my alarm went off in the mornings, I used to hit the snooze button and think, “I’ll just sleep 8 more minutes.” Now I think, “I’ll just take 5 deep breaths, and then get up.” (I still usually fall back to sleep before I get to the third breath.)

2. I’m always thinking about how I can wear my yoga clothes to the office, and my work clothes on the mat.

3. I used to waste all my time on Facebook, now I spend my computer time reading yoga blogs. (Notice that I don’t consider yoga a waste of my time.)

4. Last week, we were having a technical problem at work. I looked my co-worker and without even thinking said, “You know, Mercury is in retrograde.” He looked at me like I was crazy and asked what I was talking about. “Never mind,” I said. (*Unrelated question.. Do any other planets go into retrograde?)

5. I instinctively put my hands together into Anjali Mudra to express gratitude—something I never did before I started yoga.

How has yoga spilled over into your everyday life?

Haha number 5, yes definitely!! Although I have to watch it, I don't want to give myself away as a crazy yoga hippy (I'm kidding myself if I think everyone doesn't know already). As for number 1, not so much…though getting up before 6am would never have been possible pre yoga-life-take-over.

I tell people to breath all of the time and be present – most are non-yogis I'm saying this to.

I love spending all my time between work tasks keeping up on yoga blogs – and ditto about the yoga clothes – today I'm teaching two classes at a worksite and am wearing an interesting combination of yoga teacher (floopy pants) and professional (amber necklace).

Answer to ? Do other planets go into retrograde. Yes they do go into retrograde. Each planet affects us differently, mars war, venus love sensuality. I am not an astrologer, I turn to Yoga teacher and astrologer extraordinaire KK Ledford for all my interplanetary planning. According to her pluto and mercury are now in retrograde. She is @KK_KaliKa on twitter 🙂

I'm not sure how I feel about you working at a place where "Mercury is in retrograde" isn't a good explanation for things going wrong.

@Anna, I'd like to see that combo. Sounds cute!

@Elise Thanks! But what does Jupiter in retrograde MEAN!? I will follow KK! Thanks for the tip.

@Hannah I know! It's SO weird! It's like I'm in an alternate universe.. They also thought I was weird when I got out my lavender essential oil. They were all, "That's so YOGA of you."

Namaste, mama!

I'm Erica. I'm a yoga teacher who helps pregnant and new mamas find more balance in their life through yoga, mindfulness, self-care, inspiration, community, and humor. I spoil my yoga students rotten (in a good way!), and it's my mission to teach mamas that it's not selfish to spoil themselves every now and then, too.
